Visit Our Retail Shop in Devon

Our retail shop is located in the charming village of Black Torrington, half way between Hatherleigh and Holsworthy, in rural north west Devon. It is often described as a 'sweetie shop' for crafters with an extensive range of quality Japanese seed beads, Czech crystals, pearls, gemstones, findings and more.

We also have a selection of commercially prepared and hand dyed fibre suitable for spinning and wet or needle felting. We particularly support British wool and are supplies for John Arbon Textiles and Jamieson's of Shetland, amongst other British producers.

Black Torrington is a small village with just ourselves, a primary school, church and pub.  Parson Jack Russell, who bred Jack Russell dogs was vicar at Black Torrington's St Mary's Church, and they hold a bi-annual animal art exhibition in his honour.

The Black River Inn, located just a few doors down from our shop, is a wonderful, friendly country pub that serves excellent food and many local beers and spirits. We highly recommend a visit! Check out their website for more details and to book.

About Us

Hi! I'm Kate and this bit is about me....

Born into a creative family I grew up with colour and texture all around me. My lifelong passions for old stuff, wild stuff and big skies have led me on many great adventures around the world, through various types of education and careers until I now find myself in the beautiful south west of England where I can enjoy being outside with my family and friends, both 2 and 4 legged, somewhere between the wilds of Dartmoor and the splendour of the north Cornwall and Devon coasts.

I have run The Bead & Fibre Cellar since 2009 and love helping people create beautiful things! I teach workshops and create my art from beads, fibre and textiles.  When we meet I will happily tell stories of the places I've travelled from Africa to Antarctica, of archaeology and palaeontology, of horses and dogs, and of the colours, light, and textures that inspire me.

If you are in Devon, whether lucky enough to live here or just visiting, please do pop in as I love meeting creative people and chatting all things sparkly and fluffy!

For more pictures of my work please check out my Instagram account.
